Meet the Advocate behind Balaclava Health Foods

Jagi’s mission is to challenge the notion that organic products are inherently expensive. By prioritising customer satisfaction and affordability, he aims to demonstrate that the benefits of organic living can extend beyond the realm of the trader.

Welcome to Balaclava Health Foods, a sanctuary of wellness driven by a commitment to inclusivity and genuineness! Founded by Jagteshwar ‘Jagi’ Grewal, a seasoned entrepreneur in the health and wellness industry, this health food haven stands as a testament to his passion. Jagi has a track record of successfully managing well-being stores in collaboration with others, and now he proudly owns Perfectly Priced in Bentleigh and Balaclava Health Foods.

Jagi’s journey into this venture was sparked by a revealing incident: witnessing a customer pay $49.95 for an oil that costs $6.95, a product she needed frequently (at least three time per month). This eye-opening experience, coupled with the growing demand for vegan products, motivated Jagi to create a space where people could access organic foods without breaking the bank. When the opportunity to lease a space on Carlisle Street arose, Jagi seized the chance and commenced setting up shop in May, with the grand opening scheduled for June 26, 2024.

Drawing from his past experiences, Jagi emphasises the importance of offering fresh organic fruits and vegetables in his store, as they are essential components of an authentic organic store. Stressing the significance of reliable organic food suppliers, Jagi praises his current supplier for their expertise and commitment to organic products. Additionally, Balaclava Health Foods proudly features a regenerative organic butchery and sources from Locavore in Byron Bay to provide customers with high-quality meats.

On a more personal note, Jagi’s commitment to affordable organic products was inspired by his wife’s passion for organic foods. Recognising the high costs associated with organic produce, such as a $20 medium-sized chocolate bar, Jagi took it upon himself to research suppliers and offer these products at more affordable prices to ensure his family could sustain their healthy lifestyle.

Jagi’s mission is to challenge the notion that organic products are inherently expensive. By prioritising customer satisfaction and affordability, he aims to demonstrate that the benefits of organic living can extend beyond the realm of the trader. The positive feedback from local residents and visitors alike underscores Jagi’s success in providing a diverse selection of products at competitive prices.

Celebrating Grace and Roy at Park Bar: A 2nd Year Anniversary Milestone

Share

In the heart of Balaclava, there is a hidden gem that has been delighting food enthusiasts for the past two years – Park Bar. Founded by the talented chef, artist, and mother, Grace Park, this culinary haven has become a go-to destination for those seeking a unique dining experience that seamlessly blends Korean and Japanese flavours.

This year on May 18th, Park Bar celebrated a significant milestone – their 2nd year anniversary. As they mark this special occasion, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on their journey, their inspirations, and their commitment to delivering exceptional dishes that captivate the senses.

Grace Park, the creative force behind Park Bar, brings her 12 years of Japanese culinary experience to every dish she creates. Her passion for cooking, combined with her artistic flair, results in a menu that is both sophisticated and family-friendly. From the traditional spicy pickled vegetable dish, kimchi, to other Korean-Japanese fusion delights, each offering at Park Bar tells a story of harmony and balance.

One of the standout specialties at Park Bar is their fresh kimchi, made daily using Park’s family recipe that has been passed down through generations. The main difference between fermented kimchi and fresh kimchi lies in the fermentation state, with fresh kimchi offering a delightful crunch and less sour tang. It is this attention to detail and dedication to tradition that sets Park Bar apart in the culinary landscape of Balaclava.

As we celebrate Park Bar’s 2nd year anniversary, let us raise a toast to Grace Park and her team for their unwavering commitment to excellence, creativity, and innovation. Here’s to two years of flavour, passion, and memories shared around the table at Park Bar. Cheers to many more years of culinary magic ahead!
